Minimol Games 2023
Roles and Duties: Game Designer and UX Designer, responsible for:
Reward system
Gameplay progression
UI Redesign
Navigation flow
UI animations
I joined the Minimol Games during Chessarama's production. In early versions of the game, players had access to all game modes and features from the start. This resulted in an overwhelming first-time user experience (FTUE). Furthermore, we identified that making progress in the game didn't feel rewarding, which hurt retention.
To improve it, I was responsible for redesigning progression and reward systems with a peer designer. The interaction with these systems occurs through the UI, which I also had the opportunity to redesign. The emphasis was on the information hierarchy and navigation flow. Afterwards, new playtests were applied and the results were significantly better. Players celebrated the rewards. There were fewer friction points in the 1st hour of gameplay. And some testers played for over 10 hours, showing the impact of the new systems on retention.

Soccer Chess Formation
One of the game modes is a PvE chess battle where the objective is to score a goal. Like in soccer, each team has 11 pieces which may start from different strategic positions on the board. In Soccer Chess the player always starts with the ball and the computer from a more defensive position, so the formations are asymmetric. To hand the design over to the programmer's team, I delivered the following:
A set of guidelines for the randomizer (e.g. player formation must be rolled first)
28 formation mockups (14 for the Player + 14 for the computer)
A matrix of the valid combinations
Feel free to reach out. I would appreciate a coffee chat!
