This project was developed in 2 months with a team of 3 as part of the Game Design program at Vancouver Film School. The level design evolved beat by beat, starting from an LDD that guided the desired intensity and difficulty each game beat should have. Whiteboxing was done using Probuilder on Unity. The biggest challenge was handling the isometric camera perspective. This angle makes it difficult to perceive depth. As a result, players found the first versions frustrating.
The originally intended precision platforming was off the table, yet we found through playtesting that the fun relied on performing combined sequences of dash and jump in the air. Therefore, the metrics were adjusted, making platforms hard to miss. And the game beats were improved, leaning more toward the timely combination of actions. Playtests and iterations on the level were done almost daily until it felt satisfying for players.
